Compact operators on Banach spaces

In this note I prove several things about compact linear operators from one Banach space to another, especially from a Banach space to itself. Some of these may things be simpler to prove for compact operators on a Hilbert space, but since often in analysis we deal with compact operators from one Banach space to another, such as from a Sobolev space to an L space, and since the proofs here are ...

Linear operators of Banach spaces with range in Lipschitz algebras

In this paper, a complete description concerning linear operators of Banach spaces with range in Lipschitz algebras $lip_al(X)$ is provided. Necessary and sufficient conditions are established to ensure boundedness and (weak) compactness of these operators. Finally, a lower bound for the essential norm of such operators is obtained.

Adjoint for Operators in Banach Spaces

In this paper we show that a result of Gross and Kuelbs, used to study Gaussian measures on Banach spaces, makes it possible to construct an adjoint for operators on separable Banach spaces. This result is used to extend well known theorems of von Neumann and Lax. We also partially solve an open problem on the existence of a Markushevich basis with unit norm and prove that all closed densely de...

Banach Spaces Whose Algebras of Operators Are Unitary: a Holomorphic Approach

An element u of a norm-unital Banach algebra A is said to be unitary if u is invertible in A and satisfies ‖u‖ = ‖u−1‖ = 1. The norm-unital Banach algebra A is called unitary if the convex hull of the set of its unitary elements is norm-dense in the closed unit ball of A . If X is a complex Hilbert space, then the algebra BL(X) of all bounded linear operators on X is unitary by the Russo–Dye th...

Matrix multiplication operators on Banach function spaces

Let (Ω,Σ,μ) be a σ -finite complete measure space and C be the field of complex numbers. By L(μ ,CN), we denote the linear space of all equivalence classes of CN-valued Σ-measurable functions on Ω that are identified μ-a.e. and are considered as column vectors. Let M◦ denote the linear space of all functions in L(μ ,CN) that are finite a.e. With the topology of convergence in measure on the set...
